Between the lines

Ok, we love stripes. So this project started with a lot of stripy things.

T-shirts, dresses, socks, bags, you name it... And maybe it came to live through being a little bit messy too. We just seemed to see striped things laying around all crumpled up the whole time, noticing the exciting shapes that appeared just by how the stripes flowed. So we started taking pictures and traced over the lines to see if the lovely shapes we saw when squinting could be translated into artwork. And we were excited about the results. Even without shadow, only leaving the black colour of the striped pattern, the shape and flow of the piece of fabric is still clearly understood. And we realised that you can even tell the type of fabric by the way the pattern falls. So this is how the ‘Jersey’ and 'Canvas’ graphic came to life.

For our cushions and tea towels the graphic of crumpled canvas is screen printed onto flat canvas, creating striking optical illusions.
